Died in a Ukrainian prison cell: The US blogger Gonzalo Lira (55).

Exxpress: American blogger Gonzalo Lira (55) has died in a Ukrainian prison cell. No media outlets are reporting on this shocking case, which further spoils Vladimir Zelensky’s image. The prisoner left behind an explosive death list.

▪️ A government that desperately wants to bring its country into the EU and supposedly protect European values from Russian invaders has allowed a US citizen imprisoned since May 2023 to die in a prison cell: Blogger Gonzalo Lira (55) allegedly died from the effects of pneumonia – why he was not transferred to a Western European hospital in time, the Ukrainian judiciary has not yet explained.

▪️ Lira, who had more than 170,000 followers on X (Twitter), was unpleasant for the Ukrainian leadership: the US citizen insulted Vladimir Zelensky, calling him a “neo-Nazi”. Gonzalo Lira may have been spreading fake news, but he did not steal or embezzle anything in Ukraine, nor did he harm anyone – yet the blogger spent eight and a half months in a prison cell after his brutal arrest by the Ukrainian security service SBU on 8 May 2023 in Kharkiv and until his death. The US government, which supplied Kiev with thousands of weapons systems and transferred billions of euros to 2023, didn’t help him either.

▪️ His latest post on X (Twitter) consists of just two sentences and a list of names. Gonzalo Lira wrote: “To find out the truth about the Zelensky regime, Google these names: Vladimir Struk, Denis Kireyev, Mikhail and Alexander Kononovich, Nestor Shufrych, Jan Taksyur, Dmitry Dzhangirov, Elena Berezhnaya – Once again: if you don’t hear from me for 12 hours or more, put my name on this list”.

▪️ This is a death list: for example, pro-Russian former MP Vladimir Struk (58), who was critical of Zelensky’s government, was dragged from his home by a raiding party and shot dead on 8 March 2022. Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to Ukraine’s interior minister, wrote on Telegram, “One less traitor”.

Brothers Mikhail and Oleksandr Kononovych are communists, they were charged, their trial was interrupted, they have been under house arrest for months – and have received death threats. This has already been discussed in the EU Parliament, but no media has written about it.

Special tragedy: Elena Berezhnaya (46), the hugely successful former figure skater and then human rights activist mentioned in this list, has also been missing since March 2022. She is presumably being held in Ukraine on suspicion of treason.

▪️ The Ukrainian president, to whom the list is presented, has not yet reacted in any way to the death of Gonzalo Lira and his accusations. And the Swiss weekly Weltwoche commented on the death of the blogger and the failure of the mainstream media to report on Gonzalo Lira: “Whoever criticises the West lives dangerously.”
