Trump tells Hannity he will be a dictator only on 'day one' if elected president

The Washington Post: During a televised town hall on Fox News in Davenport, Iowa, former President Donald Trump suggested he would not be a dictator if reelected, with one exception. When host Sean Hannity pressed him Trump responded, “Except for Day One.”

“Except for Day One. Meaning?” Hannity asked.

“I want to close the border, and I want to drill, drill, drill,” Trump said as the crowd cheered.

The Biden campaign reacted strongly to these comments, warning that Trump’s statement should be taken seriously.

Earlier in Tuesday’s town hall, Hannity asked Trump to clearly say if he has “any plans whatsoever if reelected president to abuse power, to break the law, to use the government to go after people?”

“You mean, like they’re using right now?” Trump said, repeating his claim that President Biden has weaponized the Justice Department against him.

Trump faces several legal battles, including two federal cases by special counsel Jack Smith and charges in Georgia and New York. He has previously suggested using the presidency to target his opponents, including proposing a special prosecutor for Joe Biden and urging actions against New York State Attorney General Letitia James.
