Newsweek: German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that while Germany is aiding Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, Ukraine is not considered an ally of Germany. This clarification follows criticism of Germany’s hesitance to provide certain military support to Ukraine. Pistorius, in a TV interview, emphasized Germany’s contributions, including artillery, tanks, air defense systems, and other weaponry, positioning Germany as the second-largest supporter of Ukraine after the U.S. However, he acknowledged the limitations in military aid, citing delays in arms production and the unfulfilled EU promise of increased ammunition output.

Tom O’Donnell, a geopolitical analyst, suggested that internal government opposition might hinder Pistorius’ efforts to enhance military support for Ukraine. He noted that Europe, particularly the EU, has mostly exhausted its old weapon reserves and faces challenges in ramping up new production. O’Donnell also hinted at a preference for a stalemate in the conflict within some German government circles. Despite the challenges, Pistorius expressed concern over a potential Russian victory and its implications for European security.
