The Guardian: Six teenagers, aged 13-15 at the time of the incident, will go on trial in Paris for their involvement in the events leading to the beheading of Samuel Paty, a French teacher, in 2020. Paty was killed near his school in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine by Abdoullakh Anzorov, an 18-year-old radicalized individual. The murder occurred after Paty showed cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in an ethics class discussing free speech. One of the teenagers, a girl, is accused of making a false accusation against Paty, claiming he asked Muslim students to leave the class before showing the cartoons, which she later admitted was untrue. Five other teenagers are charged with criminal conspiracy for allegedly helping Anzorov identify Paty, but they did not anticipate it leading to murder. Eight adults will face trial next year, including the girl’s father, for their roles in mobilizing against Paty. The teenagers’ trial will be held privately in juvenile court and they could face up to two-and-a-half years in prison if convicted. The trial is expected to conclude on December 8.
