Associated Press: The UK’s Labour Party won two crucial special elections, gaining seats in Tamworth and Mid-Bedfordshire, areas traditionally held by the Conservative Party. These victories strengthen Labour’s position as the front-runner for the national election next year and place additional pressure on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Labour leader Keir Starmer said the wins indicate a public desire for change after years of government decline. The wins also come after the Conservative Party faced a series of controversies, including the resignations of MPs Chris Pincher and Nadine Dorries, who previously represented the seats Labour has now won. Although the turnout for the special elections was low, polling experts suggest that the shift toward Labour could be a significant indicator for future elections. Meanwhile, the Conservatives blame the losses on “legacy issues” but still face declining support in opinion polls.
