Associated Press: At a summit in Cairo, Egypt and Jordan, two countries that have made peace with Israel, expressed growing frustration over Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi rejected the idea of transferring Gaza’s Palestinian population to the Sinai Peninsula and warned against the “liquidation of the Palestinian cause.” Jordan’s King Abdullah II labeled Israel’s actions in Gaza as a “war crime.” Both countries expressed concern over Israel’s vague indications of relocating Palestinians, which they view as a threat to the concept of a Palestinian state and also as posing security risks. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas also called for an end to Israel’s “barbaric aggression” in Gaza.
Israel’s Defense Minister outlined a three-stage plan aimed at destroying Hamas’ rule in Gaza but did not specify who would govern Gaza afterward. Meanwhile, Israel has ordered the evacuation of over half of Gaza’s population towards the Egyptian border, raising tensions with Egypt.
Egypt and Jordan have communicated their frustrations to the United States and warn that their relations with Israel are reaching a boiling point. Both leaders also condemned the air campaign in Gaza, which has resulted in a significant number of Palestinian casualties. The conflict was initiated by a Hamas attack into southern Israel, which also caused a large number of casualties. King Abdullah accused the international community of showing bias, stating that “Palestinian lives matter less than Israeli ones.”
