The Guardian: Despite diplomatic efforts led by U.S. President Joe Biden and other Western leaders, tensions in Gaza show little sign of abating. Two weeks of intensive diplomacy yielded limited tangible results—just 20 aid trucks entering Gaza. Arab allies of the U.S. are reportedly growing impatient as public protests and acts of terrorism increase in their countries. Biden’s diplomacy aimed to show both solidarity with Israel and advise caution, citing the U.S.’ own experiences with terrorism.

The aid breakthroughs have been considered minor in the face of the crisis. U.K.’s Rishi Sunak and other Western leaders also express a level of frustration and urgency, particularly in securing the release of hostages held by Hamas. The situation is worsening the West’s standing globally, endangering its support in issues like the Ukraine war. Both the U.S. and its Arab allies openly criticize both Hamas and Israel but emphasize that the longstanding occupation and failures in addressing it are the root causes. With no clear solution in sight, the Western diplomatic endeavors in Gaza are increasingly viewed as unsuccessful.
