The Scientific Studies and Research Center (CERS) in Syria is a government-run organization involved in the research, development, and production of advanced weapons, including chemical, biological, and potentially nuclear weapons. Employing around 20,000 personnel, CERS serves as the hub of Syria’s national military industry. It also oversees technological and scientific activities in Syrian universities and government departments. Iranian involvement in the CERS has increased, particularly in the development and manufacture of precision missiles, rockets, and UAVs on Syrian soil. Hezbollah is also guided and supervised by Iranian expertise through CERS installations. CERS plays a key role in Syria’s chemical weapons capabilities, which have been used against its own people but never against Israel. Despite targeted attacks, the center’s operations have been disrupted but not entirely halted, and Iran remains committed to its goals in Syria. The chemical weapons stockpiled in CERS could be used by Hezbollah in any future confrontation with Israel.
